Although majority of us are excited to have a party there comes a point when the looming birthday just doesn’t seem such a lovely idea anymore. Either you feel stressed about organising a big party or just the idea of getting older starts making you feel down.
If you want to have a stress free birthday then follow these simple tips.
Alone Or With People?
Think carefully before the birthday about whether or not you want to spend it together with your friends and family or alone with your spouse, for example. Your birthday shouldn’t all be about arranging a party for friends and family if you don’t really feel like doing it.
The key is to know what you want from the day. Don’t stay at home alone if you are even a little bit unsure whether you’ll regret it later or not.
But don’t create too high an expectation for the day either. Sometimes things go wrong and you can’t let it ruin your whole day.
If you do want to host a party then only include the people that you care about and the ones who really want to be there. If you have a mean friend in your life then perhaps it is time that you establish some boundaries.
Get Away For A Weekend
If you don’t want to be reminded of your age then don’t be shy to fly away to some place for the weekend. Go somewhere nice where you’ve always wanted to go and turn off that phone.
You don’t need to always be available as long as you do remember to say a polite thank you to the people that remembered your birthday. Keep in mind that getting older isn’t the end of the world. Read this article at Self.com about why growing older is actually awesome.
Let Others Cook And Bake
If you are looking forward to meeting up with a few friends or your family then just make sure you aren’t the one doing all the cooking and baking. Even if you enjoy hosting a dinner party make your next birthday all about relaxing and taking it easy.
So instead of spending hours in the kitchen this year go and shop for luxurious birthday cakes and party snacks. You could even think about organising a little party at your favourite restaurant. This way you don’t need to think about the cleaning up afterwards either.
Entertainment You Enjoy
You should also try to fill the day with little things that you really like. So don’t just have a casino-themed birthday party because someone else did it and everyone thinks it was cool. Go to a movie theatre and eat too much popcorn if that is what you want to do more.
You could even go to one of those experience days and do something that you have never done before. This will also allow you to see that getting older does not limit you in what you want to do.
And if you would rather stay on your couch and watch old sitcoms then don’t worry about what other people think. After all it is your special day and you’re the one who should decide what you want to do.
